The One Beacon

Photonic Emulation of Quantum Spin Systems

This University of Auckland led project aims to use the newly-developed technology of coupled nanophotonic resonators to emulate quantum spin systems. Initial work will revolve around a theoretical analysis of the nonlinear dynamics of system, with the aim of demonstrating that it can indeed be used to simulate quantum spins. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with researchers at the University of Maryland (USA), who will attempt to experimentally implement the proposed systems and demonstrate their quantum nature. This project is closely linked to the flagship microresonator project (O2) through the nanophotonic resonator platform, and to the photonic Ising machine project (M3) in the Many Beacon via the concept of quantum spin emulation.
