A team from Tūhura Otago Museum and Te Whai Ao – Dodd-Walls Centre is bringing a suite of photonic and quantum science-themed demonstrations to support the launch of Samoa's first ever science and technology discovery centre, IMAGINE Science Samoa, on 7 May 2024.

Based in Apia, IMAGINE Science Samoa will serve as a base for inspiring the next generation into science as well as undertaking a range of science outreach and teacher professional development support.

The world is entering a second quantum revolution. The first gave us silicon-based electronics. The second is set to revolutionise how we process information, sense our environment and understand our world. The race to develop these technologies is on and now Samoa can experience them first hand.

Globally, the science publisher SPIE estimates the total monetary value of all light-enabled and related services(such as cloud computing, streaming and e-commerce) comprises some USD $16 trillion, while the value of all finished goods and services produced worldwide is estimated by the International Monetary Fund at around USD $106 trillion in 2024

The Tūhura Otago Museum and Te Whai Ao – Dodd-Walls Centre team will be working with the Ministry for Education, Sport and Culture and schools to plan a full Science Showcase outreach tour later in 2024/25 and to explore how it can further support IMAGINE’s engagement programme.
