About PhD Scholarships

Te Whai Ao — Dodd-Walls Centre provides PhD students with an opportunity to do excellent research in a collaborative environment. We welcome applications on an ongoing basis from domestic and international students.

Value

The Scholarship stipend will be equivalent to the PhD scholarship offered by the institute of study, and will be tenured for three years from the official start date.

The Scholarship will include domestic tuition fees, and excludes student services fees and insurance.

Criteria

  • Applicants are assessed based on the following:
  • Excellence of the candidate: academically capable of conducting research with prior experience of academic research to support their application.
  • Feasibility of the project and alignment of student capability with project goals. Alignment with science/project KPIs. Should the project not align with existing KPIs, this should be clearly justified.

Scoring

  • 50% Academic excellence of the candidate and demonstrated research capability.
  • 30% Alignment of the project with DWC KPIs/goals and Māori/Pacifica engagement as outlined above.
  • 10% Quality of the project.
  • 10% Feasibility of the project and alignment of student capability with project goals.

Restrictions

Applicants for this Scholarship must have applied for the institutional equivalent Doctoral Scholarship. If you are offered an institutional PhD scholarship, you must accept this.

This Scholarship may not be held in conjunction with another scholarship, unless permitted by the Director.

You must be residing in New Zealand to take up the Scholarship.
