Prototyping and Commercialisation Fund

Prototyping and Commercialisation Fund

The Prototyping and Commercialisation Fund provides funding for activities related to prototyping, commercialisation, and engagement with non-academic institutions.

About this funding

The Prototyping and Commercialisation Fund supports individuals and teams by providing funding for activities related to prototyping, commercialisation, and engagement with non-academic institutions. This fund aims to foster innovation and facilitate the transition of ideas from concept to market. Additionally, initiatives that promote collaboration with industry partners, community groups, and other stakeholders will be considered.

The Prototyping and Commercialisation Fund has a total of $50,000 a year; we anticipate the fund will be distributed across several projects. The funding cannot be used for salaries with overheads.

How to access funding

Applicants must be involved in activities related to prototyping, commercialisation, or engagement with non-academic institutions. Applicants must be members of the Centre, either Investigators, New and Emerging Researchers (following the Marsden Fast Start definition) or postgraduate students.

Criteria

  • The project's potential to develop a viable prototype that can attract further investment or support.
  • The potential for the project to lead to successful commercialisation and market entry.
  • The potential for the project to establish or strengthen connections with industry partners, or other non-academic stakeholders.
  • The project's alignment with broader community goals, including contributions to local and national economic development, and engagement with underrepresented groups such as Māori and Pasifika.

Reporting Requirements

A completed Prototyping and Commercialisation Fund report is required and is due to be returned to the Industry Team six weeks after the award is started.
