New Ideas fund

New Ideas Funding supports Centre members by providing seed funding for new strategic directions, and developing new research and early proof of principle work.

About this funding

New Ideas Funding supports Centre members by providing seed funding for new strategic directions,  developing new research and early proof of principle work. However, other initiatives to grow national and international connections, such as workshops, conferences and summer schools will also be considered.

New Ideas Funding may be awarded up to $25,000, which may not be used for overheads on salaries, or to fund FTE for those with permanent positions.

How to access funding

Applicants must be members of the Centre, either Investigators or New and Emerging Researchers (following the Marsden Fast Start definition).

Criteria

  • The project’s potential to seed excellent research that will go on to be supported by external research funding sources.
  • The potential for the project to lead commercialisation of Centre research.
  • The potential for the project to lead to new connections, and strengthen existing ones, such as between domestic and international researchers, or the broader New Zealand community, including Māori and Pasifika.
